As you are.

During this summer I was in Iceland, discovering wildness, unknown and different foods.

I didn't even expect that in that weird and amazing land I would found the inspiration for a project.

I'm not very determinate and I've figured it out exactly in Iceland, I mean, at least for the photography.

So, finding an extremely interesting and inspirational exposition, in a land that I learnt to love in the cold mornings and in the raining days, all these things helped me to rediscover my way to take pictures and my own way to express thoughts, opinions, questions, myself.

So, just to avoid being verbose, in that exposition I saw some works of icelandic and scandinavian artists that are specialised in portraits. I LOVE portraits. That's a fact. I HATE asking people to pose. That's another fact.

These two facts collide, clearly.

BUT. I want to win.

So, I thought about people, about how people see me, about how I see people. Or how we "feel" people, and viceversa. The perception is the foundation of our behavior and relations with people. How do you show yourself to others? Does it depend on wether the person is familiar or not?

If you were in front of a business man, during an interview, which kind of face would you have?

If you were at your parents'/friends' home, during a very relaxing dinner, which kind of feelings would you show?

This is the point: depending on the circumstances, we are different. The feeling people have would be different: you could seem very serious, bored, angry, "flat" or you could seem relaxed, funny, pleasant, playful. Our nature is just in this behavior, I could figure out how you truely are just observing how you behave in different moments, together with different people. This is our nature and our way to defend ourselves, I think.

Which are the choices behind your faces? Which are the feeling people have in front of them?

And, most important, which are the differences between your looks?

I've asked my friends, and myself first of all, to pose (I did it!!) for this project and what came out is definitely amazing.

I decided to put here, in this blog, just two examples of this project. Because it's still a work in progress ;)

I hope you are not afraid of me, after these pictures.

See you at the next post/picture/whatever.

Silvia
