Icelandic road trip - part II

Here we are, the second part of my road trip in Iceland, this summer!

After the Latrabjarg Peninsula, we pierced the wheel of our pour car, at 1 am, in the middle of nowhere.

But, still, we survived. The north was waiting for us, of course.

After a veeeery long journey through the northen mountains of the fiords, we arrived in Thingeyri and we found this amazing, cute and, especially, warm cafè where we could stop and rest for a while.

Roads, black sands, beautiful views and, at last, a wonderful hot spring facing to the fiord. Amazing!

Siglufjörður is a small (very small) fishing city and one of the most famous point of interest is a big and interesting Herring Museum.

The three-days excursion begins! We moved to internal land: Askja crater with its glacier and its Viti lake and the Vatnajokull glacier. Unfortunately, for the latter, we had a very gloomy, rainy, snowy, windy (and so on) day, so I could take just few picutres (because I actually couldn't see anything).

After the Askja crater, we found a natural hot spring, in the desert plain between Askya and Vatnajokull. The water is heated up by the very new lava under it, come from the last eruption of February 2015.

After the excursion, we moved to the Myvatn area, visiting the lake with its pseudo-craters, the so-called Dimmuborgir (which is an area with stunning and amazing lavic shapes) and the wonderful wonderful wonderful Hverir. Hverir is one of the most amazing places I've ever visited. It's a huge sulfurous camp, in which you walk and will find your shoes heavier due to sticky mud (that's basically the melted rocks).

The next day we found a big crack in the ground, near the Myvatn area. It was amazing because you can feel the power of the nature under your feet, literally!

Dettifoss is one of the biggest waterfalls of Iceland and it's amazing to admire. The splash of the water is so high that we could see it from 2 or 3 km!

Then we kept going forward with our trip and we reached a beautiful unexpected city (or village): Seyðisfjörður. I loved that city, with its calm and kindness everywhere, the silence and the background sound of the water falling on the mountains around the city.

So, we're at the end of this part II, oh my...I can't believe I've managed with all of this!

See you at the next and last part :)

Cheers
